Role summary
Formlabs is seeking a Senior 3D Print Optimization Engineer to enhance the performance of their SLA & SLS 3D printing platforms. This role involves architecting optimization methodologies, conducting root cause analysis across various engineering disciplines (mechanics, fluid dynamics, software, chemistry, optics, thermodynamics), and designing experiments to improve print speed, reliability, accuracy, and ease of post-processing. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of post-graduate experience, a strong focus on customer impact and ownership, and a willingness to work across disciplines. Experience with Python, CAD, and material science is a plus.
A 3D printer is one of the most demanding machines you can build.
Lasers, optics, precision motion, thermals, airflow, materials handling, chemistry, sensing, controls, and software all have to work at micron-scale precision, for thousands of layers, with almost no tolerance for error. Making that work reliably is an extraordinary engineering problem.
That’s what we do.
At Formlabs, we’re building 3D printers that are changing the way things get made. We have the smartest minds across every engineering discipline, and the technology they’re building is deployed at more than 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
The Print Optimization Team takes on the challenge of optimizing the intersection of hardware, software, and materials to deliver industry leading print performance. We strive to make our SLA & SLS product line print parts as quickly, reliably, easily, accurately, and beautifully as possible. We are a collaborative team, with a diverse background, passionate about pushing the boundaries of print performance across our product lines.
As a 3D Print Optimization Engineer, you will be continuously using your problem-solving skills to drive improved performance.
We are customer focused, and the first step in tackling the problem is understanding what the performance boost we are trying to achieve and how many customers will benefit. Will customers be able to print parts faster? More reliability? Will they be easier to post-process, or print more accurately?
If you’re excited about process optimization, solving multi-disciplinary challenges, and bringing the best print performance to market, we want you as a Senior 3D Print Optimization Engineer.
